Resident Evil 7: Biohazard: Review

In the case of Resident Evil 7 publishing house Capcom took a big risk, leaving behind the serialized parts of the series full of action and shooting. After release RE4 developers paid less and less attention to horror elements, trying to add entertainment, and in RE6 and even offered a real action movie. But unexpectedly for everyone, the seventh part returned to its roots and is very similar in structure and atmosphere to the first three or four.

Long time no see

It’s difficult to talk about the game without using enthusiastic epithets. Despite the partial change of genre (now we don’t see the main character, but watch everything from his point of view), ideologically Resident Evil 7 remained absolutely the same and did not lose touch with the series. Even more – sometimes developers directly borrow some ideas from past games, but do not engage in banal copying, but wisely add them to the game. There is never a feeling that Capcom I used white thread to sew on the features familiar to the series, as long as they were.

And comparisons with other first-person horror games, like Outlast And Amnesia, turned out to be unjustified. Yes, the developers probably took inspiration from there, but the gameplay RE7 not that it is very similar to the mentioned “horror films”. There they had to spend a lot of time in dark corners, knowing that the hero would not be able to protect himself from monsters even if he tried. The tension was built on his fragility and inability to fight back. Here the character quickly gets a weapon and is able to get out of most situations alive (although there were still a couple of episodes with hide and seek).

About the classics Resident Evil reminds me a lot of things in the game. The mansion where the main character arrives is an eerie and atmospheric place, similar to the location from the first part. You can save in safe rooms where enemies never enter and where soothing music always plays. And even though checkpoints are placed quite generously, manually saving progress from time to time is still recommended. In the same rooms there are magic boxes – put unnecessary things in one, and then you can take them from another, even if there are hundreds of meters between them.

The riddles and pace of the story here are also in the spirit of the good old parts of the series. Despite the fact that the entire mansion becomes open for exploration within a couple of hours, it is full of closed doors with special locks. Some depict a scorpion, others a snake, and each requires a corresponding key. There are no difficult puzzles, but solving them is still fun. Fans of the original will probably smile at the nostalgic memories more than once, especially when they try to take the shotgun from the room that is closing without it.

Fans will also like the need to explore every corner in search of cartridges, first aid kits, herbs for their creation and many other items. There are backpacks that increase your tiny inventory, there are steroids to increase your maximum health level. Thanks to special tablets, the protagonist sees interactive objects around him, and without them, it is unlikely that he will be able to find all the useful things in the location – the ingredients needed to create cartridges and “healers” are sometimes hidden very well and in places where you would hardly look. These same medicines highlight collectibles, which have a small benefit, although I still won’t talk about it.

You will have to study the locations, since at every step, at least in the first half of the game, there is a shortage of either ammunition or first aid kits. Sometimes the player does not know how to react to a particular situation, and may start shooting after using up the entire clip. Or he will stay in a cramped room for a long time and get seriously injured, although he could easily have avoided this. Fortunately, even with a complete lack of ammunition, you can achieve success and advance through the plot – the game does not punish for wastefulness. But for your own peace of mind, you still want to fill your inventory to the brim.

Hospitable family

There will be many similar https://betscorecasino.co.uk/ situations when there is nothing to shoot and the blood-stained screen cannot be cleaned. The Baker family lives in the mansion and does not tolerate ungrateful guests, one of which is the main character named Ethan. He came here not to meet the crazy residents, but in search of his wife, who disappeared without a trace three years ago. Because of this, Ethan’s relationship with the Bakers did not work out right away, so they will pose a constant danger to him. You don’t have to hide in closets, but you still need to look for workarounds and avoid being seen by them.

It’s hard to believe, but for once Capcom managed to create some truly memorable villains. There are so many impressive and unexpected scenes associated with them that they will forever go down in history Resident Evil as one of the most colorful and unusual characters. Voice acting, animation, faces and characters – everything is so well done that you quickly begin to believe in what is happening. During the second playthrough, the effect of novelty will no longer be there, since the shortcomings of artificial intelligence come to light, but at first what is happening is seriously frightening.

It’s a pity, the main character slightly spoils the atmosphere with his indifferent attitude towards everything that is happening around. Of course, no one would want to listen to screams and hysterics, especially if emotional outbursts occurred at random. But sometimes a character does such or sees such, that any normal person would have reacted at least somehow and, in extreme cases, would have sworn with relish. But no – the protagonist is very often silent, as if all this is not the first time for him.

But otherwise the work of the creators is almost flawless. Locations are constantly changing (although you will still be forced to return to visited places), new types of weapons add variety to the passage, and charismatic characters attract attention to the plot from the first minute. Gameplay-wise, the game evolves from survival horror into something more like Resident Evil 4, since constant “scares” for nine hours are difficult to implement, and the player would get tired of it.

In addition Capcom managed to make the seventh part as replayable as the previous ones. I want to start the second playthrough immediately after the first: find the remaining collectibles, see an alternative ending, relive some episodes again – they are so good. Those who want to try something harder can choose an additional difficulty, where the enemies are stronger, and there is no health regeneration (although it is already minimal), and you cannot save in safe rooms until you find cassette tapes hidden in locations. I recommend especially those who are fearless to go through Resident Evil 7 in VR – the implementation of this opportunity, we have already sung all the praises in the video review.

What else can be said about the seventh “Resident Evil”? It’s better not to say or read anything, but try it yourself. Forget about comparisons with Outlast And Amnesia and remember the classic Resident Evil — the game has much more in common with the latter. This is an unforgettable adventure, and it’s hard to believe that she created it Capcom. Although, knowing this company, I would not be surprised at the imminent announcement of a conditional Umbrella Corps 2, which will negate all the Japanese attempts to regain the trust of the audience. But I hope this doesn’t happen.

Pros: a successful return to origins; great atmosphere; simple but fascinating riddles; high replayability; classic gameplay mechanics are not outdated.
Cons: an emotionless main character whom the actor doesn’t even try to bring to life.

And in what other resident was it different?? Completed all 1-6, both revelations, code Veronica and even Chronicles. It’s always like this – first you save every bullet, in the end you destroy enemies with magnums/grenade launchers, because you’ve saved up enough ammunition for a small army))
And I personally took great pleasure in smashing all the enemies at the end for all my wasted nerves at the beginning 🙂

Brings you to the family, sets the table, plays hide and seek, teaches driving, teaches you to stand up for yourself.
Jack is the epitome of an optimistic and caring father xD
And also references, he clearly knows a lot about good cinema. Groovy!

At the end, the main character rather brazenly asked the arriving soldiers “why did you take so long??", and then calmly boarded a helicopter with the Umbrella logo. So not everything is clear with him.

It was different. Previously, in the second half of the game, there were: bosses, difficult/interesting situations, tense moments, original locations.
But in the second half of Resident Evil 7 all this is missing.

They’re praising something, praising this game. Straight 10/10. But let’s look at her flaws.
1. Enemies can’t walk through doors. Only future bosses have this ability.
2. All opponents are afraid of the save room. This is idiocy.
3. Little girl as the main villain. Are you serious? This is already a mess even for an indie, but it’s inappropriate in an AAA game.
4. The main villain is family-obsessed (girl). As we play through the game, we learn that it was programmed this way. Some very strange biological weapons.
5. Replay value. There are two endings. And how are they different?? The presence of a woman in a helicopter. Ha! You wanted to replay the game in different ways like a demo? screw you.
6. Dull plot, or rather there is very little of it and it is banal. I wouldn’t be surprised that it all fits on one page.
7. The graphon is outdated to the point of abnormality. No seriously? in 17 textures like in 2007?? It’s so soapy it’s a nightmare.
8. Uninteresting non-main characters. Cop, Zoe. Why are they needed at all?? Why? Zoe gets dumped almost as soon as you meet her. And I don’t care who you decide to cure. Kopa too. And why?
9. Very few monsters. Roughly speaking, throughout the game you encounter modifications of the same type. No variability.
10. The game is short to complete. This is the resident’s license plate, why is it so small?? Oh yeah…DLS.
11. Availability of DLS for this game minus. Because they come out almost immediately after release, which already means that the game was cut in advance.
12. PSVR sucks. in this game mode you have most of the cutscenes, the cutscenes will be flawed. Your leg is being sawed off? You won’t see it. In the VR version you have no legs, only a piece of a hand with a gun, and a second piece of a hand with a watch. First person videos? No. What are you talking about. This is an AAA game from Capcom, you will watch them in windowed mode right in your helmet (and you will watch them like that).
13. Dumb corridor game. If your hand was sawed off. They will sew it on for you. If someone saws off your leg, you will put it on glue and run on. Lord. Yes, even in Outlast, if you break your leg, you will be limping for the rest of the game. And there is also a stupid corridor. If your finger is cut off. you will see this until the end of the game. And suffer from lameness. character speed. When the ending with infections appeared in the demo, I already thought: Hurray, now I’ll have to avoid touching monsters at all times. But what the hell. There’s nothing like that. Even if you make love to a corpse, you won’t pick up anything. After all, you are infected with the E virus, and it makes you immortal.
14. Translation. shotgun shells translated as: shotgun shells. Seriously?
15. You don’t know how to turn on a flashlight. If you climb into the darkest place, the flashlight will turn on itself. But the question. Where did you get it from?. When you see a character from the outside, he is wearing a shirt and jeans. Where is his flashlight??? Where are his trunks???

And now our beloved Stopgame gives this game a Raisin. The fact that you gave Dark Souls 3 Raisin was still tolerable, although the game sucks. Self-copying on self-copying. Mafia 3 was praised. Kolde new raisins. I certainly understand. Now everyone has hype about the new part of the resident, and they try not to notice the flaws. But you are the people who used to give adequate assessments. Why again don’t you see the disadvantages of the game head on?? I’m not saying the game is bad. Commendable ceiling for her. But not Raisin.

Grandfather Baker is absolutely handsome. And it tickles your nerves and makes you laugh with its jokes.
The actor voiced from the heart.

By the way, this is a terrible joke. Obviously there was a calculation that most players would choose Mia, because her subsequent teleportation and absolutely drawn death looks completely wild.
